Job Description
The Rural Municipality of Wallace-Woodworth is seeking a motivated individual for the
permanent full-time position of Utility Operator at the Virden Municipal Office.
The Utility Operator reports to the Utility Manager and will be responsible for providing support
for the water treatment; distribution operations; and wastewater systems within the
Municipality, until they are certified to manage the systems on their own.
Duties and responsibilities
– Support Distribution Operators and Water Treatment Plant Managers
– Perform general maintenance tasks on a regular basis
– Do daily checks on the booster stations (distribution systems) and Water Treatment
Plants (WTP), when trained to do so
– Read and record data from the booster stations, WTP and supply wells
– Complete reports on Word, Excel and other computer software
– Operate flush outs on distribution system
– Assist during water breaks and line locates, as needed
– All other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
– High school graduate at minimum
– A Class I or II Certification in one or all the Water and Wastewater Facility Operators
Certification Program from the Province of Manitoba is an asset OR be willing to complete
the courses and certification necessary to work on the water & wastewater system
through the Manitoba Environment and Climate Change Certification Program
– Holds a valid Class 5.0 Driver’s License
– Able to work shifts and on call weekends
– Proficient with computer applications – Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word,
Outlook, etc.
– Computer experience in GPS equipment, ArcMap software, GIS data collection, and
Google earth is an asset
– Strong written and verbal communication skills
– Attention to detail, thoroughness, and organizational skills are required
– Any mechanical trades experience or mechanical work experience would be considered
an asset
– Physically capable of walking through rough terrain
