Water Meter Person Employer: Town of The Pas Location: The Pas, MB Application Deadline: TBD

Job Description:

This position requires an individual who is dependable and self-motivated. The duties will consist of performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical and maintenance works in the reading and repairs of water meters and bleeders. As well, this position assists in the Public Works Department in other operations on an as needed basis.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
•Successful completion of grade 12
•Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License
•Excellent mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
•Ability to prioritize work and with minimum supervision.
•Good communication and comprehension ability – written and oral.
•Good working knowledge of the Workplace Safety & Health Regulations.
•Must have neat appearance and good interpersonal skills.
•Must be medically and physically able to perform all the duties of the job in various weather conditions.
•Capable of accessing buildings/structures such as crawl spaces, poorly lit basements, confined space, heights.
•Willingness to work overtime as required for meter readings and bleeder installations.
•Satisfactory results from criminal record and vulnerable persons checks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Tests, maintains and repairs water meters and remote meters.
•Installation and removal of residential/commercial meters and remote meters.
•Quarterly reading and recordings of all water meters.
•Performs meter turn-ons, turn-offs and transfers.
•Responsible for keeping all meter records current and accurate.
•Tests, maintains and installs bleeders.
•Performs bleeder turn-on and turn-offs.
•Responsible for keeping all bleeder records current and accurate.
•Performs General Labourer responsibilities in the Public Works or Maintenance Department when required.
•Ensures approved safe work practices are being followed.
•Maintain assigned vehicle and related equipment a clean and organized state.
•Performs other related duties and attend training as assigned.

WAGE RATE: As Per CUPE Collective Agreement, $26.47 per hour
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday – 7:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. (Summer Hours) & 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Winter Hours)
